Installation

Installation Step 1

1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Installation Step 2

2. Connect the yellow and blue cable at the back of the tire.

Installation Step 3

3. Push the cable into place behind the tire and center the cross chains on the tire's tread. Then, on the front side of the tire, join the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook.

Installation Step 4

4. Feed the silver draw chain with the rubber tensioner through the red channel at the bottom and pull it tight. Then run the tensioner through the red rings. (Note: Depending on your tire size, you might not be able to thread through both rings.) Pull the tensioner across the tire and fasten it to the yellow chain on the opposite side.

Installation Step 5

5. Pull your vehicle forward and retighten the chain.

Class "S" Designation

SAE Class "S" tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require Class "S" chains.

SAE Class S Clearances

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Works well, I suggest adding additional tensioner if you don’t want any slack.
Loved the product

by:

So far haven't had to use them but always practice mounting them before a winter mountain trip. Very easy to install. Tight fit so should be minimum risk of any damage.

by:

First time trying etrailer and I must say very impressed. Kept me very wellinformed during all steps during shipping. The packaged arrived on the date promised. Overall A+

by:

From ordering, to shipment, tracking, delivery and follow-up, really top notch service. The videos that show how to install are perfect (pay attention to that first hooking of the chain after draping the chains over the tire - a very important step!!). The picture is of my practice run in Texas prior to heading to PA/NY for a couple of weeks - haven’t needed them yet, but have total peace of mind that if I do need them, all will be well - they performed great in my pasture!!

2018 Kia Sorento

Fairly easy to install once you know how. Printed instructions are provided but watch the installation videos here at etrailer. Can’t speak to the durability but they appear to be well-made. I installed one chain on one wheel to ensure they fit and to familiarize myself with installing them. The cases that the chains come in are nice. I bought two pair for my AWD Sorento. My utilization plan for these chains is to avoid situations which would require their use but I’m reassured knowing that I have them if I need them. And in some states/areas you’re required by law to carry them in your vehicle during winter.

by:
2016 Kia Sorento

Fairly easy to put on... Used in the mountainous region of Tehachapi California in Feb. 2016 (they do not use salt or ash on roads when it snows) and did not have any issues getting around with my front wheel drive Kia Sorento.

by:

Good product, fair price. Installation video a little misleading since REMOVAL of chains very complicated unless chains in very specific position on wheel when attempting to take off. Took me several tries in dry practice until I figured out requirements (try disentangling draped links on brake lines, etc. hard to see and even harder to grab behind the wheel). Not looking forward to doing this in snow but etrailer’s video is good idea. Picture of removal techniques would be great improvement. Snow chains are not fun.

by:

Very easy to put on and off !!
Have
not had to drive with them but it feels good to have them !

by:

Easy enough to install and fit perfectly

by:

They fit the tires on my motorhome perfectly. It was not had to put them on either. I hope to never have to use them but it is reassuring to know that I have a good set of chains if needed.

Dodge Ram Pickup

Chains for front wheel drive Ram Promaster 2500 campervan. Have used them a couple times to get up access road to ski area in snow and they work very effectively. Like all chains speed must be kept below 30mph and occasionally need to be re tightened. But overall set up is fairly straightforward if you practice first in warm dry weather.

by:

Only used these once in snow and ice in Southern Oregon. The tire chains gripped the road well and keep my camper van on the road. They were easy to put on the tires even in the dark! Good value!

2023 Hyundai Tucson

Purchased these for my 2023 Hyundai Tucson. Arrived in about a week. I'm a 66 year old female. Following the instructions I did a practice install of 1 chain. Wearing gloves it took about 5 minutes, no problems
Instructions are great and the hardsided storage case is nice. I will update if and when I actually drive on them.

by:

I haven't actually used them in the snow yet, but really like the design and ease of application. Both chains can be attached within 5 minutes. I anticipate having good traction by the looks of the design. Thank you!

by:

Thanks for reaching out - have mixed reviews. Two different shipments means a negative environmental impact. And the wiper blade (single, was thinking it was 2 blades) came in an unbelievably over-sized box. The chains, however, came appropriately packaged and look good, but haven't tested.

So I'd give the overall order a 3 out of 5.

by:

Great chains: easy to put on, simple instructions, work well in snow. Nice carrying case too!

by:

I used these once to get out of some soft ground/mud. Easy to install without having to jack up the van or drive over them. You just wrap them around the back of the wheel and click the fasteners. It couldn't be simpler.

I bought these for the rare occasion I get stuck in mud. I have used them twice in the year I have had them. Easy to install, even in the mud. Work great. Easy to hose off. The bag keeps them nicely for when needed. I should have laminated the instructions.

2014 Kia Sorento

I will respond to the review because I like what I bought. However, I have not yet had to use the product. I live in southern California and am a snow skier. I have season passes for Mammoth Mountain and only went up for one week last year. My car has snow tires and 4 wheel drive. The snows condition was not bad enough last year that I was required to use the chains. The state law requires that I carry snow chains for all four wheels. I have seen many times that I would need to put on the chains. Just not so far with these chains. I love the ease that they go on. I love the storage case and I like not having to have individual rubber stretchers for each tire.

by:

I put the chains on the truck, just to get a feel of how to put them on,it was a sunny dry day. I’m not impressed with the cable assembly nor the stretchy rubber attachment. I believe in a small amount of time the rubber will break and the cable will stretch on the inside. But we shall see the results if and when i will need to put them on in the snow.

2018 Nissan Titan

The titan Chain Diamond Lt Alloy Chain-sq Link work great on my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. It’s been a year since I bought them, and I knew they fit because I practiced at home, but last weekend I used them in the snow for real. Easy to install, not too much vibration while driving, and easy to take off. Bonus: they fit easily back into the case! Never had a set of chains that easy to put away.

by:

Received the chains a day early, thank you ! Put them on for a practice run , as advertised fit perfect and went on in minutes .... hope I won’t need them but thank you for the great customer service ...

by:

Thank you Jesse for helping me select snow chains for our Class C Motorhome. Excellent service. I've used etrailer before & highly recommended them.

by:

Easy to put one and worked great other then on first use a link broke and had the chain whipping in my wheel well. Had to pull over almost immediately, I guess the benefit was the repair link was easy to use

I always recommend doing a dry test install of tire chains once you receive them. Only drive with them on a snow covered road and avoid any non snow covered roads while installed.

by:

Ordered these chains for my Class C rv. We were driving to Colorado for Thanksgiving. An early snow storm stranded us at a Flying J . We woke up to 12 inches of snow. I put on the chains and was able to get to to the west side of Denver. They were vey easy to put on the tires. Made driving safe!

2020 Chrysler Pacifica

This is based on a driveway install. Pretty easy but slightly more complicated than standard cable chains. The box they come in is much larger (hence the once point off) No real complaints but on my pacifica 2020 with 18" wheels I can't use the second loop or even get the rubber hook across the wheel to the other side. They seem secure and I'll update if I ever get in a condition to use them, these are more like keeping bandaids in the car, you might never need them but if you do there they are. No complaints about the shipping and etrailer has been great to deal with (been buying from them for awhile).

  • Recommended Snow Tire Chains for 2018 Audi Q5
The snow tire chains I recommend for your 2018 Audi Q5 are the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2319 because they are Class S compatible for vehicles like yours with limited wheel well clearance, are easy to put on, and use square links which will give our Audi optimal traction in both snow and ice. You do need to measure to ensure you have enough clearance to use the Snow Tire Chains # TC2319; you will need to have at least 1.46 inches from the top of your tire to your wheel well...

On the low end I recommend the Titan Chain kit # TC2319 which really is a quality set of chains for what they are. They have built-in tensioning and are Class S compatible so they are low clearance. For your 5th-wheel trailer with 235/80-16 tires, I recommend using tire chains on your braked axles. This is because you will get the most added traction out of chains installed on these tires. With that being said, we do carry great chain options for your tires. I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond...

The two tire sizes you mentioned of 245/75-16 and 225/75-16 are different enough that a single set of chains won't fit between the two. So you'd need a set like the part # TC2323 for the 245/75-16 and then for the 225/75-16 you'd want the # TC2319.
